Dear NANO1 backers,
We only have 1 week left to our campaign and we're almost cross the 200,000SGD mark in funds raised. We can't tell you how excited we are to bring the innovations in NANO1 to you.
The past week was spent talking to camera box/case manufacturers because you guys said you wanted it.
We're also testing the lenses because you guys requested it!
Let's keep up the suggestions as we pull towards the last quarter of the campaign!
Lens test comparison
We wanted to test out the kit lens vs the zoom lens vs the new prime lenses. However, the prime lenses required some alterations to work on the NANO1.
The prime lenses were not threaded to the end of the lens barrel, which prevented them from focusing on the NANO1 due to a mismatch of rear flange distance. We just noticed this as the lenses were tested on a fixed sensor. We'll update the review as we get the compatibility issue ironed out with new prototypes.
The test: Zoom lens vs Kit Lens
2 NANO1 cameras are put on a holder and we took videos of us walking around our office. The settings on both cameras were: ISO auto, shutter speed auto, 4K30fps, H.264.
Here's the snapshot for the zoom lens vs the kit lens video we've shot but yet to edit.
The zoom lens shows slight purple fringing, whereas the kit lens has none. The kit lens shows better contrast and the zoom lens shows better color rendering, with deeper blues in the sky. The camera shows that it handles both highlights and shadows well.
This comparison is in bright day light and definitely favors the F2.8 kit lens. The zoom lens is a little less sharp than the kit lens in the day.
We'll try to do some tests at night where the zoom lens' larger aperture allows it to shine.
Other news
Our friends Sonnet Labs has launched a revolutionary off-grid communication device the Sonnet. The Sonnet works like an off-grid mesh network that allows you to stay connected with friends even without WiFi/LTE/GPS signals. You can send each other text, voice and images off-grid up to 5km away, which is usually the case when we go stargazing in dark sky locations. By meshing with other Sonnet users, the range can go up to 100km. Don't stay "in the dark" - simply pair with another Sonnet device within range and stay connected with your friends. Thank you all for your support and see you next week.
Best regards,
TinyMOS Team
